THE GIRL NEXT DOOR

This series of color images, ranging from basketball hoops to biker parties, from tire planters to storage facilities, combines photographs taken by Prince in his home in R-ville in upstate New York with images appropriated from mass media publications. The source ambiguity combined with the democratic, verging on banal subject matter, collapse the distinction between fiction and non-fiction, real and unreal, and provide for, “a familiarity, an intimacy, so accessible that it could be you…or me…or the girl next door.”

This special selection for Heaven was curated by Isabella Burley and CLIMAX BOOKS, an online distributor of specialist materials she founded in 2020.
